Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur News: In January 2012, Urban Development Department (UDD), Government of Maharashtra had proposed modification in Development Control Rules of all Municipal Corporations and Councils of Maharashtra vide Notice No. TPB/4307/CR-334/2007/ UD-11, dated 18th January 2012 exercising powers conferred by sub-section (1AA) of section 37 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966.

flat-rate-nagpurWherein UDD had proposed that, in any sub-division of land admeasuring 2000 square meter and more, minimum 20% area shall be provided in the form of 30 to 50 sq. mtrs. developed plots for Economically Weaker Section (EWS)/Low Income Group (LIG) and handed over to be MHADA. Likewise in a building being constructed on land admeasuring 2000 square meter and more, minimum 20% of the built-up area shall be provided for EWS/LIG housing (27.88 to 45 sq. mtrs.) in form of flats and handed over to MHADA.

Vidarbha Taxpayers Association (VTA) had strongly condemned such move by the State Government declaring arbitrary use of Section 37(1AA) of MR & TP Act and had also submitted written notes of objections.

However, UDD had recently passed Notification bearing No. TPB 4312/CR-45/2012(I)/UD-11 dated 8.11.2013, wherein notably only the size of earlier proposed area of 2000 sq mtrs has been now increased to 4000 sq mtrs.

President of VTA J. P. Sharma said, “Even as per earlier DCR provisions, if land is above one acre, 20% vacant land is required to be kept open and no FSI for such land is allowed; with this additional 20% as per recent notification, one can very well understand that how ultimately burden of almost 40% cost will land on perspective flat owners, making flats further costlier by 10-15% just due to Govt policies”.

Sharma said this clearly establishes that State Government is shifting its duty on landowners and developers? It is utmost duty of State Government to provide housing to EWS/LIG and now they have transferred such responsibility by demanding 20% share from hard earned and tax paid land from the private land owners.

Tejinder Singh Renu, secretary of VTA questioned State Government that they themselves own ample land which is lying idle and many bungalows of bureaucrats have acres of land city, why not MHADA develop such access land and hand over to EWS or LIG with only the construction cost? On one hand Govt declares housing as priority sector and than add such modifications which strongly damages the original purpose.

Renu said, even this GR would drastically harm partitions within family on larger land, as no such clarification is mentioned in notification. Likewise it would further delay building sanctioning process which already in previous provisions almost take a year plus and with this new notification, only delay and dishonesty would boost significantly.

VTA believed that this notification is Diwali gift for MHADA, who will purchase flats on construction cost from developers and shall sell with profit without oozing any sweat.

B C Bhartia’s Guru Mantra: Never do anything Illegal, Immoral or Unethical to succeed in business

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

In reality, ‘ICONS’ are those who, by their works and outstanding personality, emerge as an example to the society and also become a source of inspiration. All live a life but life is fulfilled of only those who have an aim and strive hard to achieve that aim of life to touch peak of glory and success. The success and glory also touch the feet of such personalities who choose the perfect path and are untiringly active with true determination and supreme self-confidence. Such personalities remain away from bragging themselves but still impress and inspire the entire society by their social works. Nagpur Today caught up with one such  ”ICON” of Nagpur , B C  Bhartia .

bcbhartiya

B C  Bhartia  as he is fondly known is born and brought up in Nagpur. He did his schooling from Bishop Cotton High School. While reminiscing his early school days, he said that his father sent them to school when the fees was as low and meager as Rs 24 per month, while many did not even wanted to spend that amount on education of their children. According to him, his father believed in one very basic and very vital policy. He claimed that Good Health and Good Education are your assets for life. Everything else is temporary. He said that this policy of his father ensured that they had the best food and the best education. B C Bhartiya has continued the legacy his father gave him and ensure that the same policy in his own home too. He has given the best Education to both his daughters Aparna and Swati.

He finished his B.Com followed by Chartered Accountancy and did his Articleship with N K P Salve.

He said that he had a big family of 8 brothers. Continuous changes in Government Policies during the Post-Independence Era caused his family to see many financial ups and downs. There was no steady business. He added that in those days Chartered Accountants had a lot of value in Arab countries like Dubai, Saudi Arabia etc. As soon as one finishes his Chartered Accountancy, he or she used to get Appointment Letters with very good pay packages from foreign countries. At the same time, he realized that since his family is big and going away to a foreign country may not be financially viable. Depending on the business of Chartered Accountancy was not going to take the family forward. Therefore he decided to start a business. He says that he started a business that did not require a lot of investment and had a low risk of losses. He added that he could not afford losses.

He then realized that he should get into a multi-diversity business. So he started various such business ventures that did not require much financial capital and low risk of losses.

According to him those days foundry was developing in Nagpur and picking up good business. So he explored and got involved in Steel Foundries. He started supplying Hard Coke, Coke, Iron Pipe Manufacturing, Cement Manufacturing, Packed Drinking Water Manufacturing, Foundry Chemical Manufacturing, Foundry Alloy Manufacturing, Foundry Carburized Manufacturing, Medical Oxygen Manufacturing, HDPE Bag Manufacturing, Mining of Lime Stone & Dolomite etc. He also started a Chain of Departmental Stores.

He said that multi-diverse manufacturing and other business ensured that even if one business fails or hits recession, other business will ensure sustenance of his business interests and his entire family.

He again sensed as to how can one take out money from his business to ensure security of family members and their future. So in order to ensure security of family members’ future, he started small investments in purchase of residential flats and houses. According to him, this helped in strengthening the network and in making them eligible for more financing from banks to help them grow their business.

One of the Guru Mantra his father taught him which remains till date his own and his family’s Mantra while doing business is to “Never do anything Illegal, Immoral or Unethical”. He says this is my family code of conduct. That is one reason why we can and continue to give our names to all family business.

Above everything, he says apart from being a good businessman, he has to be a good son to his parents, a good husband and a good father to his children. He has two daughters Aparna and Swati. Aparna is a CA / CS and is married and presently in Singapore. His second daughter Swati is also a CA / CS is married off and is in Nagpur itself.

One very dynamic and inspiring policy is that we should give good human resources to the society for the children have to take the society forward. He added that one should be proud parents of daughters. They should help them develop like a tree and not like a climber or a creeper which is depending on the tree for sustenance. He says that he told them to get the best education and that they have direct competition with boys. He advised his girls that they should never hesitate to compete with them. Their being a girl should never be their weakness.

Entertainment Tax Deptt mops up Rs 3.5 crore after set top boxes made mandatory by Govt

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

The staggering figure is within six months of the financial year

Set-TopNagpur News.

The Entertainment Tax Department has mopped up over Rs 3.5 crore from cable operators in the past six months after the digitalization was made mandatory by the Central Government. The recovery of the whopping amount was accounted for the set top boxes installed by the cable operators.

The above information was sought by an RTI activist. The Central Government move for compulsory installation of set top boxes under digitalization system was aimed at curbing non-payment of Entertainment Tax by cable operators in a big proportion. The mandatory installation of set top boxes has cleared the figure of cable connections to a great extent. Previously, the cable operators clandestinely suppressed the exact figure of cable connections thus robbing the Government of Entertainment Tax in a big way.

The RTI activist Abhay Kolarkar, resident of Padole Layout, sought the overall information from the Entertainment Tax Department about the current status on installation of set top boxes in the city. According to the reply, till now 4,34,980 set top boxes have been distributed or installed by the customers. Previously, the figure quoted by cable operators was much less thus clearly showing non-payment of Entertainment Tax in accordance with the number of cable connections. The RTI reply further informed that the number of cable operators in Nagpur stood at 606 who are functioning under four main cable operators.

The Entertainment Tax Department has so far recovered Rs 3.5 crore from cable operators which could climb to Rs 6-7 crore by the end of financial year. The Department has collected Rs 5.71 crore in 2012, Rs 4.09 crore in 2011 and Rs 3.90 crore as Entertainment Tax from the unorganized sector of cable operating. But after digitalization, the figure has already crossed Rs 3.5 crore within six months of the financial year.

The biggest and most effective form of marketing and advertising is word of mouth publicity which is also a result of networking to some extent, “Its not what you know that counts, it’s whom you know”

Akash added that people can start networking from any gathering of people like chamber of commerce & industry meetings/programmes, professional associations, conventions, ask your friends for recommendations and introduction, Gyms, playing sports like golf, cricket, clubbing, yoga, zumba classes, etc, are good place to start networking. Business networking can be done at exhibitions, seminars, training courses, associations, foreign trade visits, etc, also at pubs, trains, planes, weddings, children schools, alumni events, etc.

Akash  said networking is very important to make new friends, find new businesses, new jobs, get leads,  change careers, hire good employees, sell products, improve your business practice, to find a life partner, brides/grooms for their children. He also shared Do’s & Don’ts of networking: Do’s are like: Be genuine, authentic, build trust and relationship, Become known as a resource to others, Understand the need of people you are networking with & offer them some value (invest time & effort to help others), Have fun. Similarly, Dont’s are like: Don’t fear big shots, Don’t expect anything, Don’t only hangout with friends, Don’t get discouraged if some people don’t like you. It’s ok!!, Treat everyone as equals (no bhaiya-baji).

Akash also shared Myth’s of networking like Networking is manipulative - Its not when you are open about your agenda, Its only for extroverts, Successful people will not talk to me or they are too busy.

Akash also discussed about Online Networking through Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin & Whatsapp. He shared his practical experience & opinion. He added that don’t wait until you are desperate to network, You are never to old or successful to network, People are often very happy to help others, Networking comes naturally to those who love to meet new people and find out what they are about, People who are curious to find out new things, curious to learn new skill, sport, knowledge, etc.

Summing up his talk Akash, suggested and gave tips and advice to all that always reach early for any meeting, event, programme, party, etc., Join – Jaycees, Lions, Rotary, round table, VMA, VIA, VED, NVCC, NCCL, MIA, etc, Saturday club, DICCI, etc. Have some USP so that people remember you; attend all weddings, parties, events, meetings that you are invited to, always go for conferences, trade fairs, exhibitions, especially outside your city. Try and go in a group if possible, what goes around comes around – you receive what you give. Give to receive, instead of sticking to just old friends join clubs, associations, forums and make all your old friends also to join them, don’t wait until you are desperate to network, you are never too old or successful to network. Networking also increases self-confidence, Extended family, Groups/friends according to interest, lastly, increase in growth of business.

Govt should fulfill the hopes of Dalit youth says DICCI chief Padmashree Milind Kamble

Dalit MSMEs have paid Rs 13,500 crores direct taxes: DICCI
Nagpur Today: While addressing a press meet recently Chairman of DICCI Padmashree Milind Kamble said that it is for the first time after 60 years of Independence that the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI) has tried to dissipate the misconception prevailing in the society that people from the SC/ST category have made stupendous progress because they are enjoying all the fruits of reservation. DICCI has brought to light some facts after a detailed study, which would be an eye-opener for the citizens of the country.

As per the RBI, in the first quarter (Q1) of the current financial year, the GDP of the country was Rs 13.71 lakh crore. “If we go by the Census of 2006-2007, the SC/ST micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have contributed Rs 1.35 lakh crores which is about 10 per cent of the total GDP of the country. This 10 per cent is a remarkable contribution from the SC/ST MSMEs in India,” he said.
After 60 years, the Central and State Governments have offered employment to 50 lakh SC/ST candidates.

Against this, SC/ST entrepreneurs have given employment to 77.45 lakh people showing an appreciation of 27.45 lakh (about 55 per cent). “The capital investment (CAPEX) made by the SC/ST entrepreneurs is Rs 86,904 crore and they have contributed Rs 13,500 crore to the Government’s treasury in the form of direct taxes. However, as per the budgetary allocation, the Union Social Justice Ministry has kept aside a fund of Rs 4,500 crore which is being spent in the form of scholarships and other facilities.

This automatically reflects that the SC/ST entrepreneurs have given Rs 9,000 crore more to the Government,” Kamble pointed out. “No one talks about this real fact, neither the Government, NGO nor any political party. Then why there is a hue and cry that the SC/ST people have progressed just because they are given reservation. Whatever the Government is spending on the SC/ST people are being done from our own pockets. Even, the additional fund of Rs 9,000 crore which is in the form of direct taxes is contributed by us in developing the social infrastructure of the country. No one talks about it,” he noted. “This conference is being organized to tell the Government in general and the people of India in particular that there is no obligation on us.

Reservation is the right enshrined in the Constitution to make the enfeeble people strong. Dalits are the assets in this country,” Kamble stated. Taking this into consideration, it becomes the duty of every Indian to join hands with the Dalit community and push the engine of the country’s growth.

DICCI supports liberalization, privatization and globalization (LPG) as it has opened new corridors for Dalits to show their skills.

Kamble added that while designing any programme, the Government should not treat it as a need but should feel that it was addressing the problems of Dalit youth. “Government schemes have failed to boost the morale of the Dalit youth. Now it is high time the Government fulfills the aspirations of the Dalit youth and help them eradicate the disease of poverty and make them self-sufficient,” he suggested. Ten years down the line, after the inception of DICCI, the Government had awakened from the long hibernation and made 4 per cent purchases mandatory from SMEs run by SC/ST in the Procurement Policy. Replying to a query about reservation for jobs in private sector for SC/ST candidates, the Padmashree awardee said that the matter was discussed at great length. In 2006, the Indian Inc and the Government took the decision that an affirmative action would be taken. “Now, 500 Dalit vendors have come into the mainstream and are supplying spare parts and accessories to the corporate world as well as public sector undertakings. We have gone ahead and the corporate world is now partnering with Dalit entrepreneurs,” he said.
Tatas have joined hands with N K Chandan, a Dalit entrepreneur from New Delhi. “We want to see our names in the list of millionaires and billionaires by working with our sweat of brow,” he felt. Talking about the non-cooperative behaviour of the banking industry, Kamble said, “Whenever we approach banks for loans, they ask us to provide collateral security. How we can provide them as collateral security. We are the first generation businessmen. Our forefathers were treated as bonded labourers in this country,” he said. In order to solve this problem to some extent, DICCI has come up with a venture capital fund wherein 100 Dalits can become millionaires. “Empowering the DICCI members is the need of the hour. We respect all the organizations and political parties which are defending the interests of Dalits in the country.

We, as an industry body, i.e. DICCI, will always try to take the chariot of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar further,” he claimed. “We have selected Nagpur for highlighting this issue because Dr Ambedkar had created history on this land. He has flagged off the social transformation movement from Nagpur by taking refuge in Buddhism and liberated us from social bondage,” said Arunkumar Khobragade, Mentor-DICCI, Nagpur Chapter. “Today economics has taken the front seat in every segment of the society and we are rolling out plans to make our members financially sound so that they can contribute in the GDP growth of the country,” said Nishchay Shelke, President of DICCI, Nagpur Chapter.  Those present for the press conference were Gopal Wasnik, CA Ashwin Kapse, Abhitabh Meshram, Kiran Meshram and Hemant Ganvir.
